Sometimes the best way to do this is through research- look on the internet to see if people have experienced a lot of trouble with a particular brand or model of furniture. You may be able to ask the staff of a furniture store if they have had any problems with an item you are considering purchasing- though such sources may understandably be less than objective. Most of the time, items will be of mediocre quality.
It’s getting harder to find such furniture at a reasonable price nowadays. Mass produced products have resulted in discount living room furniture that is cheap, but also cheaply made from inferior materials. Where leather living room furniture was and still is associated with durability and class, nowadays cheap leathers that are like quality leathers in names and looks only may wear out as soon as fabrics. You have to really know what to look for to separate the mass-produced furniture of acceptable quality to the furniture that will break very soon.
People who may not be interested in placing sculptures and carvings may resort to using lamps to accentuate the reception area. Not only will those unique in design be attractive; they can also provide light which can be used to add to the mood in the room. Try using the ones which have been made out of minerals, polished stones, etc. if you want an always glowing look, whether or not the bulb is switched on or off.
So what kind of furniture should you get? Rather than recommending specifics, it may be more practical to consider purchases from a material and design standpoint. We’ve already mentioned leather, which is still a great material if you get full grain or other high quality cow hide (although the conditions in which the cows are raised are inhumane). Marble is another rather regal material that is also classy, though it requires a certain amount of care. This most often comes in the form of a marble coffee table, which is a great way to get marble into your home without spending an exorbitant amount of money for a marble floor, marble walls, etc.
