In a living room that has plenty of space it may be an idea to designate separate areas to create a more homely feel to the room: perhaps a home office space beneath the stair recess or a formal dining area where a straight edge to the flooring delineates the divide between carpet and hard floor, creating a more intimate dining setting. You may have a small room that is better for creating a sense of space, using lots of pastel colors on the walls and white gloss on the paintwork.
So what kind of furniture should you get? Rather than recommending specifics, it may be more practical to consider purchases from a material and design standpoint. We’ve already mentioned leather, which is still a great material if you get full grain or other high quality cow hide (although the conditions in which the cows are raised are inhumane). Marble is another rather regal material that is also classy, though it requires a certain amount of care. This most often comes in the form of a marble coffee table, which is a great way to get marble into your home without spending an exorbitant amount of money for a marble floor, marble walls, etc.
Most decorating themes are dependent on the size and shape of the room and what it is going to be used for. Living room decorating ideas are no different in that the type of decor chosen is going to be largely dependent upon the room’s size and how that room features in the overall utility of the house generally. Some people’s living rooms remain completely empty for much of the day and are only used during the evening when the family is at home.
When we moved into our house, the walls were off-white. Not bad, definitely versatile, but not for us, and definitely not for our furniture and accents. We used our favorite wall color, Sherwin Williams Latte , and...WOW!!!! The room just popped! When your paint colors complement your furniture and accents, and your furniture and accents complement your paint colors...you win. Your style starts working for you.
