Like the name implies, the living room is easily one of the most important rooms in our homes. Unlike basements, kitchens or bathrooms, the rest room is usually our first thought when it comes to decorating a new home. At the same time, rest rooms need to be one of the most versatile spaces in your home. They take on a number of different roles which can make getting the decor just right, a bit of a challenge.
In a living room that has plenty of space it may be an idea to designate separate areas to create a more homely feel to the room: perhaps a home office space beneath the stair recess or a formal dining area where a straight edge to the flooring delineates the divide between carpet and hard floor, creating a more intimate dining setting. You may have a small room that is better for creating a sense of space, using lots of pastel colors on the walls and white gloss on the paintwork.
Focus on some essential guidelines and create a picture perfect plan, incorporating a variety of furniture, carpets and curtains, art works and cushions with effective color contrasts or blends. Whites or grays, browns and blues, alone or in combination - the walls and floors need to match too. Choose the style closest to the heart, since the choices are too many. Finally, the vision should be a decor to keep everybody enthralled through the years!
When we moved into our house, the walls were off-white. Not bad, definitely versatile, but not for us, and definitely not for our furniture and accents. We used our favorite wall color, Sherwin Williams Latte , and...WOW!!!! The room just popped! When your paint colors complement your furniture and accents, and your furniture and accents complement your paint colors...you win. Your style starts working for you.
